This art piece features student portraits compiled from the 1957 yearbook of University of North Texas (now University of Texas). The university integrated its undergraduate student body one year earlier, after a federal judge ruled, in Atkins vs. Matthews, that the school had wrongly denied entry to Joseph Atkins, an African American applicant.
