MYRTLE BELL MOTEN, CIRCA 1923

Early Quakertown Resident

Shown here at age 13, Myrtle Bell Moten was an early Quakertown resident and daughter of Dr. E.D. Moten, the community's first African American physician. Her family relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1920, one year before the City of Denton forcibly disbanded the Quakertown community, replacing it with a park. Myrtle later worked in civil service in Washington D.C.
