BLACK LIVES MATTER PROTEST
Washington D.C. 2020
Racial issues continued to grip the United States' public life long after the Denton Women's Interracial Fellowship stopped meeting. This art piece features a Black Lives Matter protestor wearing a covid-pandemic mask reading “I can’t breathe,” in solidarity with George Floyd, whose murder by a police officer sparked protests and riots across the nation. Witnesses present at the murder in Minneapolis, Minnesota, heard George beg for his life saying “I can’t breathe,” as police officer Derek Chauvin refused to remove his knee from George’s neck.
This art piece features a black and white photo attributed to Yash Mori taken in Washington D.C. on June 2, 2020. The photo has been colorized and processed for creative reasons without altering content.
